Rolled Sugar Cookies

from Marge Britigan (from her Aunt Ann) - Bloomington, MN

  Amount Measure Ingredient
-------- ------- --------------------------------
       1 cup butter, cold
       3 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking soda, dissolved in a little hot water
     1/2 tsp baking powder
     1/4 tsp salt
       2 large eggs, beaten
       1 cup sugar
       1 tsp vanilla

Preheat oven to 350.

Mix flour and butter as you would for a pie crust -- (i.e.,
cut it in with a pastry blender or 2 knives). Work the
dough as little as possible, just until it comes together.

Add remaining ingredients and mix. There is not much liquid,
but it will mix together.

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap or enclose in a plastic bag and
chill for at least 30 minutes or until firm. It can chill
overnight.

Roll pieces of dough out (very thin -- about 1/8 inch or
less if you can), cut with a cookie cutter, and place on
ungreased cookie sheet -- decorate as desired.

Bake at 350 until just starting to brown at the edges.
