Miscellaneous Sites
This section was created for groupings that were too small to have their own page. It also includes sites that didn't seem to have any other logical grouping. As the site becomes larger, some of these may move to their own section. I've already decided that the section I call Home Cooking is probably going to get big enough to warrant it's own page soon.
Home Cooking
- RoseWave Recipes

- There have been at least 500 recipes added since I last looked at Rosewave. There are international dishes, stews, pies, candy, fish, and more. You can't go wrong with this site--there is a wide variety for everyone's taste. For example, on the "Side/Veg Dishes" page there is a recipe for Garlic Mashed Potatoes (for you meat & potato lovers) and, for the more adventurous, Port-flavored Red Cabbage or Leeks Alfredo. The navigation is really clean, the site is fast, recipe instructions are very clear, and on top of all that -- the recipes sound delicious! I'm a sucker for custard pie and there are several that I must try from this site. I also love rhubarb so I think the first one I'll try is the Rhubarb-Raisin custard. Check this site out, it's a winner. (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
- What's Cooking America

- This site is the best gourmet home cooking site I've seen. The recipes aren't the usual home cooking fare, but are presented in a way that won't intimidate even a novice chef. The site author has a cookbook (already the 2nd edition by the way) which I plan to order since I assume it is as good or better than the web site. The recipes on the site are organized by category and the big categories are broken down into sub categories which makes finding things fairly easy. You might think something like "Smoked Salmon Mousse in Won Ton Baskets" would be too difficult, but you can prepare everything up to 2 days in advance and just put it together just before a party. Of course being a Minnesota native, I have to opt for the "Grilled Minnesota Pork Chops" -- another easy but delicious sounding recipe (pork chops coated with Italian seasoned bread crumbs and freshly grated parmesan cheese). I'd recommend just browsing through all the recipes and, if you are a bread maker, check out some of the bread machine (dough cycle only) recipes -- very interesting -- for example, Lemon Anise Bread and Raisin Hazelnut Bread. - Gourmania

- This Kosher cooking site has a little bit of everything: cookbooks for sale, web design, food consulting, tips, articles, and some recipes too! I'm no Kosher food expert, but the recipes look tasty to me. The site has about 100 recipes on the recipe page and some others sprinkled among the other pages. The owner of the site has authored several cookbooks and many of the recipes on the site come from the books so I'm guessing they have been carefuly researched. My biggest complaint about the site is that many of the recipes appear to be scanned images from the cookbooks and can be difficult to read. I have not tried any of the recipes (yet), but I'm a big brisket fan so I think I'll give the "Coke® Brisket" a try. (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
Unusual and/or Weird
- Iowa State University's Tasty Insect Recipes

- Yes, it's real ... they were even on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno ... and you thought they only ate corn in Iowa ... (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
- Weird and Different Recipes

- It's difficult to decide which one of these recipes is the most disgusting; the ones made out of normal ingredients doctored up to look terrible (Kitty Litter Cake, for example) or the ones made from more unusual ingredients (like Jellied Moose Nose). Seriously, if you're looking for something that looks and sounds awful but is edible, this may be the site for you. (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
Vegetarian
- International Vegetarian Union

- About 1700 vegan recipes from various regions of the world. India and the US are heavily represented but you'll also find Latin American, German, Greek, and many others. The recipes are submitted by site users so there is a wide range of complexity and detail of instructions, but the overall quality of the recipes looks quite good. (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
- FATFREE (Low Fat Vegetarian Recipe Archive)

- There are over 4500 fat free and low fat recipes on this site. The recipes are submitted by site users so again you'll find a wide range of complexity, detail, and quality. If you want to cut down on fat, that's fine and this is a good place to find some recipes, but I draw the line at Tofu Cheesecake. As noted in an interview with Julia Child: "Mention of the word lowfat or nonfat causes extreme dismay. 'I think they've managed to scare everybody to pieces,' she groans. Child points to the French, who eat everything. She invokes her mantra: 'Small helpings.'". (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
Other/Miscellaneous
- LiqueurWeb.com

- Not chock full of recipes, but many, many links. The site does provide general instructions for fruit and, to a lesser extent, herbal liqueurs. The main bonus on this site is not having to look up all the links. I got a bit tired of some of the flashing ads. (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
- Adventure Sports Online®

- A small collection of camping recipes on a commercial site for finding outfitters, outdoor products, etc.. See some of the other camping sites for a better set of recipes. Several of the recipes require a Dutch oven and others require ingredients that I wouldn't normally bring on a camping trip (fresh ginger and cilantro, scallions). Perhaps these are for what I call "car camping", where you can pull your car into the site and not have to worry about how much stuff you brought with you. (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
- Back of the Box Recipes

- What more can I say; it's a commercial site with a huge collection of recipes that have come from the backs of boxes, bags, etc. produced by your favorite consumer packaged goods companies. (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
- CopyKat.com

- So ... if you really MUST HAVE a recipe to duplicate White Castle Hamburgers, Hooters Hot Wings, or Planet Hollywood Chicken Crunch this is the place to look. You can search for recipes by type of dish or alphabetically. I guess I don't eat out enough, I've never heard of some of these places. (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
