Sudairy.com 4.5-check rating
Christina's site is back! I have not yet looked at the new site, but I'm guessing it has not substantially changed. An extensive collection of Middle Eastern recipes. There are twenty food categories (including one on spice blends) plus a glossary of ingredients and terms. If you can't find a recipe you like on this site, you probably aren't looking for middle eastern food. A MUST SEE collection. I tried a couple of these recipes recently (Rice with Lamb Casserole (Roz Tajin) and Arnabeet bel Lamoun (Cauliflower with Olive Oil and Lemon)) -- they were excellent and easy to prepare. I did put about 1 and a half times the cinnamon in the lamb dish, but that's because I love the taste and also because I find that many Middle Eastern recipes are a bit under spiced for my taste. Food from the Arab World 4.0-check rating
Recipes from a book published in 1959 (from Food from the Arab World Marie Karam Khayat and Margaret Clark Keatinge, Khayat's, Beirut 1959). You need to look this site over if you are interested in Arab food. The pages and navigation are beautifully laid out and there's a small commentary about each recipe. Also has some full menu suggestions. You might find some of the recipes a bit involved, but they appear to be worth trying out. (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
Iranian/Persian Recipes 4.0-check rating
About 100 recipes organized by category. There are some delicious sounding dishes here and the recipes are laid out well with clear directions and descriptions of the dishes. (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
Islamic Gateway 4.0-check rating
A broad spectrum of Middle Eastern recipes -- organized by category. Categories include: appetizers, soups, yogurt, eggs, bread, beverages, and so forth. The recipes are well organized and easy to read, but look like they primarily come from sudairy.com (see above). (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
Egyptian Ministry of Tourism 3.5-check rating
Egyptian Recipes Page has a listing of a few recipes and also additional recipes grouped by type (Soups, Main Dishes, Fish, Sweets), and recipes from their magazine. A bit of a mishmash -- some recipes are quite detailed, others call for "spices", but do not specify what that means. A novel feature ... the recipes on the main page run a Java script that converts the amounts in the recipe to the number of servings you desire to make. (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
Tasty Vegetarian Recipes from Egypt 3.5-check rating
Another page from the vegetarian resource group with about a half dozen recipes. Some of these look a bit bland, but try them out -- you can always doctor them up if necessary. (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
Vegetarian Soups from the Middle East 3.5-check rating
A page from the vegetarian resource group. Scroll down the page and you'll find about 8 recipes which look like they are quite tasty. (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
Al Mashriq (The Levant) 3.0-check rating
Miscellaneous recipes for Lebanese and Arabic food. A list of about 25 recipes including three for baba ghannuj and one for curing your own olives. There's nothing fancy here; most recipes are easy to read (except for the ones that appear to be published directly from e-mail) and the most instructions are clear. (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
Kingdom of Morocco 3.0-check rating
The Ministry of Culture and Communication in Morocco has put out about 30 recipes on this site. Some of the recipes are a bit difficult to follow, they appear to have been translated from French to English. The last time I tried to connect, the server did not respond. (Last reviewed: 26 Dec 2004)
